I thoroughly enjoy a face mask, I make it a part of my sunday self-care ritual. I love that feeling when your skin just feels like it can breathe a bit more because it just needed some TLC after a long week. I only have a couple of face masks in my collection and this cute pink number is one of them.
Pros
Leaves the skin feeling smooth
Unclogs pores
Improves texture
Helps improve fine lines and wrinkles
Gives a brightening and radiant glow
Cons
Expensive
May be not be suitable for sensitive skin
Key Ingredients and effects |
---|
25% AHA blend - mixture of acids brightening the appearance of the skin & exfoliates surface dead skin cells
2% BHA - salicylic acid unclogs pores & exfoliates the surface of the skin
Cactus extract - soothes the skin after exposure to AHAs
Feel & Texture |
---|
Creamy texture
Soft
Tingle upon application but subsides quickly
How to use |
---|
Suggested use by the brand is once a week and apply an even layer to clean and dry skin - leave on for 20 mins. I’d say if you have never used it before leave it on for ten minutes and patch test beforehand - especially if you have sensitive skin. Rinse and pat dry, then apply the Virgin Marula oil that comes with Babyfacial.
Price and verdict
Okay I have a lot to say so stick with me. This mask is a ‘facial’ at home and that’s how it feels. It contains a whopping 25% AHA and 2% BHA blend of Glycolic, Tartaric, Lactic, Citric and Salicylic acid - that’s insane, in a good way! These acids help to achieve the ‘baby’ skin (as the name implies) by exfoliating all dead skin cells, lightening any dark spots, clearing pores and helping smooth fine lines and wrinkles.
All of that in a mask is amazing. It contains lots of other ingredients, just two examples of that are chickpea flour, which helps combat dullness and passionfruit seed oil, which improves dryness and reduces redness.
I remember when Drunk Elephant launched in the UK and Babyfacial wasn’t included because of the high amount of acids, thankfully it made its way across the pond because the glow it gives my skin is unmatched. It does tingle upon application but this quickly subsides and then I’m on my way to achieving ‘baby’ skin.
As mentioned, patch test first and start maybe with ten minutes, even if you don’t have sensitive skin. I use it for 20 minutes, once a week as I have used this for a long time now. Don’t use it on the same day as other strong acids in your routine and always follow up with SPF the next day.
I like the colors used but I’m not a huge fan of the actual packaging. Simply because I can’t tell how much I have left and even when it stops coming out the pump, there’s always some left and I can’t get in the packaging to scrape around more product, so I feel that’s a bit wasteful. I think the pump is great because the product is strong so you don't want excessive amounts but maybe a better bottle?
It’s £72/$80 for 50ml and for me, it is expensive and we won’t shy away from that. Is it worth it? Does it last a while? Yes and yes. I’m running so low on my current one and to part with $80 for a new one hurts my feelings a little. But I get over this quickly because for what it does, the results it gives me and how long it lasts, it’s an investment. It also comes with a small Virgin Marula Oil to apply on after which feels so nice on the skin too.
Drunk elephant T.L.C Sukari Babyfacial conclusion
Think about it this way, one facial can cost over £100 which may be needed every 4-6 weeks. This at home peel is less than that and lasts months. For the smooth, ‘baby’ like skin it gives me and the reduction in breakouts, my pores looking better and the absolute fab glow - it’s worth every penny.
