I sometimes have quite big pores, blemishes and blackheads, it’s a recurring event on my face, can you relate? Welcome to the club, it’s nice to have you here!
Exfoliating is one of the best things we can do for our skin to get that glow and banish those blemishes as much as we can.
I love an exfoliator and I didn’t really have one in my routine that targeted my nice big pores, so when I discovered Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant - I had to give it a go!
An exfoliant for all skin types
I am quite lucky that my skin (so far) reacts pretty well to a lot of products, I don’t get extreme redness or peeling, the most I get is a bit of dry skin, where my skin feels tight.
This exfoliant is for all skin types but as I have combination skin, I felt like this would do wonders for me - I proceeded to add it to the basket.
I hadn’t heard of this brand a few years ago but it was launched in 1995, I was only 6! Fast forward 28 years later, the brand is still thriving, it is science-backed and the website has an ingredient dictionary that even allows you to filter by skin issues! (BRB filtering ingredients that are blackhead reducing).
Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting Liquid Exfoliant - ingredients and effects
Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting Liquid Exfoliant (it’s even on the bottle) states that it unclogs and shrinks enlarged pores, smooths and evens skin tone and it is a lightweight liquid that absorbs quickly. The key ingredients here are salicylic acid and green tea.
Salicylic acid is a golden nugget of an ingredient, it minimizes pores, reduces wrinkles and fine lines and gets rid of built up layers of skin. It is a form of BHA that is fantastic at targeting those issues. Now that sounds like heaven to me, anything that will help my pores - I’m in!
My skin tolerates it well but on their website it is advised to start off slowly using the product every other day and pay attention to how your skin responds. As always if irritation occurs stop using.
Green tea soothes irritation, has anti aging benefits and improves any sun damage you might have. Having green tea in this exfoliant makes sense, while the acid is working doing its job, the green tea is soothing your skin.
I’m sure I have sun damage, even with protecting my skin, so anything that can help improve the damage is ticking the right box! The bottle is telling me the truth, this exfoliant is lightweight, it feels like a toner and it sinks into my skin super quick.
How to apply
I apply this product sometimes with my fingers/palm of my hands and sometimes with a cotton pad - either works really but I kind of prefer my hands and a few drops is more than enough. If you are using it during the day, always apply sunscreen after .
I sound like the SPF police I know. I first started using it as per advice on the website, just in case of irritation.
I watched how my skin reacted, no issues, so I incorporated it into my routine 2 to 3 times a week and after a week of using it I noticed some improvement to the texture of my skin and my pores already.
My goal is to really reduce the size of my pores so that without make-up they aren’t so big and dull!
Worth the cost?
Paula’s choice Skin Perfecting BHA Liquid Exfoliant retails for $44/£34 and I know that might seem a bit expensive but I personally think it’s worth it. I have always said it’s worth spending your money on products that target skin issues - this is one of them.
A little goes a long way so it will last a while and the bottle design helps this too. If all else fails and you aren’t sure if you can part with $44/£34 without knowing if it will work for you, you are in luck - they do a lovely little travel size for $14/£11.
I love it when brands do this because there is nothing worse than buying a pricey product for it to not agree with your skin!
