Cheap skincare routine

I can’t recall a time so far in my life when everything was so expensive, I feel like soon I’m going to have to pay to breathe - this cost of living crisis out here is real. My basic food shop has drastically increased and so maybe like me, you may be looking for ways to cut back and save a few dollars.

One way that we can do that is switching to some more cheap skincare products that still are really effective!

My cheap skincare routine picks

Here’s a round up of my top cheap skincare alternatives for our everyday routines that work just as well as more expensive counterparts:

Cleansing Balm by e.l.f. - $11/£10

e.l.f. Holy Hydration makeup melting cleansing balm is a gem of a product, packed with peptides, ceramides and hyaluronic acid working wonders at taking off makeup. It’s a solid balm which melts into an oil and then forms into a milk texture - honestly it takes off makeup so well. It works well as a first and second cleanse, it does need a bit more product to take off eye makeup - but for $11/£10 I am not complaining. I used to use a cleansing balm that was over £30 - that saving there can buy me another product in my skincare routine! Read my full review here

Vitamin C serum from Garnier - $14.48/£12.99

This vitamin C serum by Garnier has been receiving rave reviews and hype surrounding its effectiveness and rightly so. It’s the Vitamin C brightening serum 3.5% which also contains Niacinamide and Salicylic acid - we all know those ingredients do wonders for the skin! I’ve had a very expensive Vitamin C serum in the past, I’m talking £60+ and for what? Honestly the drugstore brands are making HUGE waves in recent years and I am here for it. I much prefer Garnier’s serum, it visibly reduces dark spots, brightens the skin with lemon extract and tackles any residual marks. For $14.48/£12.99 we literally cannot complain.

Eye cream by Good Molecules - $6/£6!

One of my favorite affordable skincare brands at the moment is my babe Good Molecules, you could actually get a lot of their products for such good value for money! One of them is their Yerba Mate Wake Up Eye Gel - Yerba what? Yeah I had that thought too at first but it is a natural antioxidant and polyphenol that gives the skin a brighter look. It’s a very lightweight, fast absorbing gel which works well under makeup too. It also contains caffeine and 3 forms of hyaluronic acid which both help to reduce puffiness and fine lines! Best of all, it’s only $6/£6!

Moisturizer from Neutrogena - $16.96/£12.99

I recently, maybe a few weeks ago, purchased the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Moisturizer as I have just wanted to try it out and I believe you don’t have to have an expensive moisturizer in your routine. Cheap skincare items are here to stay right?! It contains a unique Hyaluronic matrix gel which locks in that hydration really well, the thin gel-like consistency gives my skin that ‘cooling’ effect - feels so nice on my skin in the morning! For $16.96/£12.99 it’s a friggin’ steal.

SPF by Neutrogena - $11.99

There is such a huge range of affordable SPF products available that sometimes it may even be tricky to know which one to go for! As always, SPF 30 and above (I’m a factor 50 kinda gal) and look for a high or broad spectrum UVA rating. I’m currently trying out Neutrogena Invisible Daily defense face serum, with a broad spectrum SPF 60+. It doesn’t leave a white cast, it feels nice on the skin whilst also helping to even out skin tone. One of the best things about it, apart from the amazing protection, is how lightweight it feels on the skin. It also doesn’t make you look shiny like a disco ball, it’s oil free and fragrance free too. For $11.99 that is worth every penny!

Cheap skincare routine for $50/£50

Cheap skincare is something that we can all implement into our skincare routines, whether we are trying to save some money or not. Granted, not all products may work for your skin type but there are some really great affordable products that are effective and work just as well as their expensive products.

If you are trying to shave off some dollars from your skincare routine, do it with the products I have mentioned above, the products that cost a bit more are your serums targeted at specific skin concerns. So if you are looking to splurge on a retinol but it’s expensive, switch to a more affordable moisturizer or cleanser!

All in all, you can definitely create a cheaper skincare routine, I recently did it as I wanted to try the above products and my total spend came in at around $50/£50, these products do also go on offer so it can even be less - you don’t have to break the bank to have fantastic skin!
